Boutique Travel PR Agency Spotlights Top Five Daycation Trends

Daycation allows individuals to enjoy the luxurious amenities of a hotel or resort for a day without booking an overnight stay.  In a post pandemic world, daycations have become more popular as individuals opt day passes to indulge in a luxury hotel’s spa rituals, swimming in a pool, gym or lounging on a daybed, cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, farm to table dining experiences and outdoor recreational activities.

Did you know . . .

  • “Unlike typical vacationing where people require a place to sleep, individuals who go for a daycation can do so without having to make arrangements for a place to sleep for the night. This trend has especially found a footing in metropolitan regions as those within the regions seek a near getaway without so much logistics. “(Source: NBC)
  • “For hotels and resorts that have adopted the daycation model, it is an additional stream of income. Day passes for their amenities help hotels generate revenues from the services that would most likely be unused by the residents of that particular location or guests who are not spending the night at the hotel. This helps optimize the use of the property while also marketing the hotel to potential future guests.” (Source: Miami New Times).
  • “By saving 30 percent to 75 percent on the night room price and avoiding travel costs, our clients tend to spend 30 percent more on food and beverages, spa treatments, and other add-ons compared to the traditional overnight clientele.” (Source: DayUse)
  • “From a tactical perspective, daycations are used to fully utilize the pools, spas, gyms, restaurants, and other amenities within the hotel, even if there are few guests in their rooms. For example, during the off-season or weekdays, when hotel bookings are typically lower, selling day passes allows hotels to maintain a steady revenue flow (Source: NBC).

In a post pandemic world, daycations present a new revenue stream for hotels and resorts to attract repeat customers looking for an escape from their hectic lives.  Allen Marketing Communications, Inc., a boutique travel and lifestyle public relations agency based in New York Cit, showcases the top five daycation trends.

Hotel Day Passes

Hotel day passes allow individuals to use the hotel’s services without staying overnight at the property. Hotel passes vary from simple entry to various packages, including spa or dining vouchers.

Hotel day passes also attract new customers especially during the slower times at the hotel.

Wellness And Self-Care Passes

With awareness of mental health and well-being on the rise, many hotels are now providing day passes for services such as spas, yoga, and meditation to enhance an individual’s overall wellbeing.

Research shows that the wellness industry is “expected to reach $919 billion, which led hotels to create new packages that would allow people to experience a day of rejuvenating without needing an overnight. “(Source: Yahoo Finance)

Family-Friendly Daycations

Family resorts are a very popular daycation for parents seeking a fun day out without spending a fortune on an overnight trip. Hotels now offer kid friendly activities, facilities, swimming pools, and game rooms.

“It allows parents to understand that while they are at the pool, children are allowed to have fun under supervision, hence making the place suitable for a mini-vacation. Resorts that provide kid-friendly amenities have found a niche market with this offering.” (Source: NBC.).

Culinary Daycations

Food experiences are another opportunity for the growing daycation market. In fact, hotels and resorts are offering cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, and farm-to-table food service as a daycation experience.

This trend is very profitable for the local economy because it enables people to taste local foods during their travels. There is more interest being paid to culinary daycations, with many of them tapping into their restaurants and dining assets to capture the local and tourist markets. Research indicates that “culinary experiences significantly enhance the overall appeal of daycation packages, driving higher engagement and repeat visits.” (Source: Web in Travel)

Adventure And Outdoor Activities

Daycations are now focusing on outdoor recreational activities. Hotels and resorts are joining forces with outdoor adventure companies to present day passes for hiking, biking, kayaking, and zip-lining.  Research shows “outdoor recreational activities have seen a surge in popularity, prompting hotels to design packages that integrate these experiences into their offerings. “(Source: Yahoo Finance)

Daycations are a wonderful option for those who need an escape from their everyday life and they do not have the budget for a vacation.  It also presents a new revenue stream for hotels especially during the slower periods at the hotels.

Our team of talented travel and lifestyle public relations professionals and social media strategists can help hotel marketers tap into the growing daycation market.  Contact us today.
